I love it when I get to use my favourite retired Stamp Sets once again. 

Our card today is one we created in our Crafty Creations class way back in March.  I did case this from someone, but I can't find the original card.  Please do let me know if you recognise it, so I can give you credit.  Thank you for your inspiration!

Inspired by Nature....

.... has been retired, but I used it for our Volunteer class last Friday.  We did a little bit of sponging, cutting, stamping off, scoring as well as creating what I call a "Single Panel Step Card"  Come to think of it, I don't think I ever posted the original we did in a Technique Class.  Will have to find it & post it.

The ladies enjoyed this class as we created a card using a different fold plus a couple of small basic techniques.

On the list this year is to attempt different folds as well as a couple of other things.  It is always fun creating cards a little bit different.

I am really happy with the end result as I sort of started with no idea or picture in my mind.

Technique Class...

Today's card is the 2nd from our Technique Class "Black Magic" we completed a couple of weeks ago.

SC 033/12...

Wow, the challenge this week over at Sunny Challenges & Creations is really out of my comfort sone, to say the least!  I am really very happy with the result & LOVE "Distressing"!

Yep, this week our challenge has been brought to us by Libby.  Along with the sketch, we had to use the Technique - Distressing.  This technique is able to be created using many different ways.

Below are a couple of hints –
· Gently rub a distressing ink pad with a sponge and rub ink around the edges of paper
· Brush ink with a direct-to-paper technique (brush ink pad directly onto surface of paper with gentle strokes)
· Crumple paper, flatten, and rub distress inks on paper.  Paper can be sprayed with water and dried a heat tool to set
· Sand the surfaces of your card stock to achieve an antique effect

Any of these techniques will give you an antique or vintage look which can vary with the colour and ink you use and how much you apply to the paper.

As soon as Libby set us this task, my mind went racing & immediately knew what colours I was going to use, BUT as to how I was going to go about it, well that is another story.  In saying that, I did have a hard time trying to decide on my bit that runs along the bottom bit of the card.  I tried so many ideas that I finally decided on what I ended up with & am glad I did, as I think it sets it off perfectly!

Base Card - Very Vanilla - 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" or 21cm x 15cm - Scored in middle & folded in half
Layer 1 - Not Quite Navy - 5 1/2" x 3 7/8" or 14cm x 10cm
Layer 2 - Watercolour Paper - 5 5/8" x 3 3/4" or 13.5cm x 9.5cm
Layer 3 - Very Vanilla - 5 5/8" x 3/4" or 13.5cm x 2cm

Ink - Versamark, Crumb Cake
Cardstock - Watercolour Paper, Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla
Ribbon - 5/8"Crochet Trim - Victoria, Linen Thread
Accessories - Heat Tool, Embossing Powder - Clear, SU Markers, Pearls, Smooch Spritz - Very Vanilla, Distressing Kit, Snail Adhesive, Mini-Glue Dots

I really wanted to finished with my Base Card as Not Quite Navy, but cut both Layer 2 & 3 too big for that, so settled on Very Vanilla.  Maybe next time, as I have a couple of samples that didn't make this card!

After trying a couple of different ways to create my background, I finally used Watercolour Paper - soaks up the misting a lot faster & believe me, there is a LOT of misting on this card!

I also added a couple of elements to finish my card off.  You could say "Vintage meets Shabby Chic"

Inspired by Nature...

The layout for these pages have been inspired both by the photos & of course the Stamp Set - Inspired by Nature.  I think this set is perfect for these photos without taking away from the photos.  I love to scrap my photos, while at the same time not have the photo/s become lost on the page.

Page 1 -

I matted my photo onto Crumb Cake & then onto Garden Green Cardstock.  I inked my image with Crumb Cake Ink & radomly stamped around Very Vanilla Cardstock.  I tried to bring the weeds from the photo onto the page.

Wanting to add a little bit of green & the colour of the T-Shirt Amber is wearing, I decided to ink the flower image using Garden Green, So Saffron & Pacific PointSU Markers & stamp over the top of the reeds.  I repeated this step twice.  I then applied Crystal Effects to the flowers so that the colours would pop out more.

Once the Crystal Effects had dried, I adhered my photo to the page.

Using my Basic Black SU Marker, I wrote onto a scrap piece of Vanilla Vanilla, punched out using my Oval Punch & adhered to a piece of Pacific Point Cardstock, which had been punched with my Scallop Oval Punch. 

I punched a hole either side of the oval with my Handheld Punch & thread a piece of Linen Thread through either side.  I think this blends in well with the whole scrub theme.

Page 2 -

This page was really very easy & took all of about 5 minutes.

I matted my photo onto Crumb Cake & then to Marina Mist Cardstock.

I stamped my reeds onto Very Vanilla Cardstock with Crumb Cake Ink.  I again inked my flower image with Pacific Point, Garden Green & So Saffron SU Markers & stamped them onto the page.  I applied Crystal Effects to the flowers & set aside to dry.

 I adhered my photo the centre of the page & with my SU Basic Black Marker, wrote a little bit of "What's Happening"

SC 001/11...

I thought I would do another card for our current sketch & stamp set.  It is not too late to create a card from the sketch using "Inspired by Nature" Stamp Set.  Check out the details - http://www.sunnychallenges.blogspot.com/

For my card, I thought I would use some of the outgoing DSP, emboss a little here & there, put it altogether & that would be it.  Yes, I used the DSP, but after putting it together, looked at it & found out I totally forgot to do the embossing.  Oh well, all the embossing stuff will have to wait another day.

I cut a piece of DSP, adhered to Very Vanilla Cardstock & adhered to the base card - Riding Hood Red.  I stamped the image directly onto DSP using Basic Black Ink, adhered to Riding Hood Red & then to base card.

For my butterflies, I used the Bigshot & Embosslits Die - Beautiful Wings, along with DSP & Riding Hood Red.  The butterflies were adhered randomly over the card with Basic Pearls adhered down the middle of them.

Again, a very easy card, although I can't help think it would have been much better if I had not forgotten to Heat Embossed.

The sketch was created by the lovely & talented Gwen using the set stamp set for the week - Inspired by Nature.

For my card, I used Chocolate Chip Cardstock for the Base.  Adhered a piece of Pumpkin Pie on top, run a piece of Chocolate Chip through the Bigshot using Embossing Folder - Square Lattice & adhered to card.

I stamped my first image directly onto Very Vanilla Cardstock using Old Olive Ink.  I coloured my 2nd image using my SU Markers, stamped over the top of the first image & applied Crystal Effects to the top of the flowers to add dimensions.  This piece was adhered to Old Olive Cardstock & then to the base card.

All in all a very easy sketch for the stamp set, but unlimited possibilities.  The colours I used for my sample are not my usual colours as I decided to go way out of my comfort zone.

This is the card we made at the Community Centre on Friday arvo.  Again, the ladies all made their individual card to suit the occasion they wanted.  They all turned out lovely!

Base Card - Basic Grey - 5 5/8" x 4 1/4" or 15cm x 10.5cm
Layer 1 - Melon Mambo - 5 1/2" x 4" or 14.5cm x 10cm
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 5 3/8" x 3 7/8" or 14cm x 9.5cm

Using Old Olive Ink and my image, I stamped the reeds randomly onto Whisper White Cardstock, ensuring the image overlapped the top.  Grabbing the small flower and Melon Mambo Ink, I stamped the image randomly among the reeds.

I measured about 1/2" or 1.5cm down from the top of Whisper White Card & the same in from both sides.  I ruled a line in pencil from point to point.

I punched the point using my Small Circle Punch.  I then punched along the ruled line using the Word Window Punch.

Using a Stampin' Dimensional, I adhered one to the top of a 5c coin, ensuring that this was under the punched cutting.  I adhered the second 5c coin on top of the Stampin' Dimensional so that the two 5c coins were sitting exactly on top of each other, ensuring that they could slide side to side with no obstructions.

Using Multipurpose Glue, I adhered Melon Mambo Cardstock to the Base Card, and Whisper White to Melon Mambo Cardstock using Stampin' Dimensionals.  This allows for the coins to slide side to side.

I stamped the sentiment onto Whisper White Cardstock using Melon Mambo and punched out using the Large Oval Punch.  I then used the Scallop Oval Punch to punch out a piece of Basic Grey Cardstock.  I adhered the Whisper White to the Basic Grey & this was adhered to the card.

I stamped the Butterfly onto Whisper White Cardstock using Melon Mambo, cut the image out & using a Stampin' Dimensional, adhered it to the top of the 5c coin.

This card is for the challenge over at JUGS  I wasn't too sure of the stamp set I wanted to use, but knew I wanted to used the DSP - Lap of Luxury.  I have ony cut into this paper & it is just stunning!

For my card -
Cut base card using Concord Crush Cardstock, score in half
Cut smaller piece of Basic Gray Cardstock & adhere to base card
Cut smaller piece of DSP - Lap of Luxury & adhere to Basic Gray Cardstock
Cut piece of Cardstock in Concord Crush - 2.5" x 4"
Cut piece of DSP - Lap of Luxury - 2 3/8" x 3 7/8"
Adhere DSP to top of Concord Crush
Cut piece of Basic Gray Cardstock - 4" x .75" & adhere to top of DSP
Adhere Concord Crush Ribbon to top of Basic Gray & tuck ends of ribbon under

Tie Ribbon LHS

Adhere entire piece over top of DSP which is your card

Cut piece of Concord Crush Cardstock - 4 5/8" x 2 1/8"

Cut piece of DSP - 4 1/2" x 2"

Using Shimmer Paint - Frost White, randomly spread over DSP & let dry

Ink image with Versamark & then with Concord Crush ink, stamp image directly over top of DSP
Apply Clear Embossing Powder & using Heat Tool, heat stamped image

TIP - This will not give you a raised image, but will allow parts of the Shimmer Paint to come through onto your image

Adhere DSP to top of Concord Crush Cardstock & apply to card

TIP - I sometimes leave the sentiment until such time as I am looking for a particular card, then I will include a sentiment.  It allows you to be more flexible with your cards, while at the same time not having to make another card

Using SU Pastels, I've created a very light background, including the sun, then embossed over.  I didn't want the pastels to be too vivid so to compete with the embossing folder.

Another challenge, another card.....  This time a Colour Challenge....

My first instinct was to go for "Inspired by Nature" Stamp Set & of course, seeing the frog there, I had to include that too, which is where "Hoppy for You" comes into it!  A great Stamp Set for kids!
