Technique Classes...

Our classes for the new year are now back up & running.  It was great to catch up with everyone, have our normal "Show & Tell" & hear how everyone did at Christmas & New Year.

To showcase some of the gorgeous SAB products you can earn this year, our 1st card was created using the DSP - Sweet Sorbet.  To earn FREE products during SAB, all you have to do is append over $90.00 excluding P&H.  SAB begins Tuesday, 28 January, but as a Demonstrator I get to pre-order.

To start the new year, we did a little bit of "Heat Embossing".  I like to go over techniques every now & then so that we can familiarise ourselves with them and it helps with the new crafters who have joined our group.

SC 070/12...

It was my turn to set the challenge this week over at Sunny Challenges & Creations.  This is a very easy sketch as well as the 2nd part of the challenge being non-traditional christmas.  Now this can mean non-traditional colours, stamps or both.  It is entirely up to you......  We hope you will have heaps of fun with this challenge, better still join us this week.

Measurements -
Base Card - Basic Gray - 8 1/4" x 5 7/8" or 21cm x 15xm
Layer 1 - Whisper White - 3 3/4 x 3 7/8" or 9.5cm x 9.7cm
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 3 3/4" x 2" or 9.5cm x 5cm
Layer 3 - Pretty in Pink - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" or 11.5cm x 6.5cm
Layer 4 - Whisper White - 2 3/8" x 4 3/8" or 11cm x 6cm

Supplies -
Stamp Set - Lovely as a Tree
Ink - Basic Gray, Versamark
Cardstock - Basic Gray, Whisper White, Pretty in Pink
Embossing Folders - Perfect Polka Dots, Stripes
Accessories - Snail Adhesive, Tombow Multi-Purpose Glue, Stampin' Dimensionals, Big Shot, Heat Tool, Clear Embossing Powder

I run the larger piece of Whisper White Cardstock through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder & the smaller piece of Whisper White using the Stripes Embossing Folder.  Both pieces were adhered to the Base Card - Basic Gray with Tombow Multi-Purpose Glue.

I stamped the long piece of Whisper White Cardstock using Versamark & then Basic Gray, before embossing with Clear Embossing Powder.  The embossed piece was adhered to the piece of Pretty in Pink with Snail Adhesive.

Thinking I didn't have a "Merry Christmas" Stamp, I printed the greeting onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock, punched with the Word Label Punch & adhered to the bottom part of the embossed piece prior to adhering to the Base Card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Why not head over to Sunny Challenges & Creations to check out what Kris & the other entries have created.  We would love to leave you some comments.

Until next time, Happy Stampin'

Dasher & Holly.....

... make for a lovely Christmas Card, be it Non-Traditional in colour!

Today's card is the one we created in my Friday's Volunteer Class.  A lot of the ladies had a particular stamp set & to get more use from it, I thought we oculd try & recreate one of the cards.  My version is similar to the card, although I have used Stampin' Up! products.

Measurements -
Base Card - Basic Black - 5 7/8" x 6 1/4" or 16cm x 15cm - Scored at 2" or 5.5cm on the 6 1/4" side
Layer 1 - Champagne Glitter Paper - 5" x 3 1/2" or 13cm x 9cm
Layer 2 - Basic Black - 4 5/8" x 3 1/8" or 12.5cm x 8.5cm
Layer 3 - Whisper White - 4 1/2" x 3" or 12cm x 8cm
Layer 4 - Red Glitter Paper - 2 1/4" x 5 7/8" or 6cm x 15cm

Supplies -
Stamp Set - Dasher (Retired), Season of Joy (Retired)
Ink - Real Red, Tangerine Orange, Versamark
Cardstock - Basic Black, Red Glitter Paper, Champagne Glitter Paper, Whisper White, Old Olive
Accessories - Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Bone Folder, Embossing Powder - White & Clear, Sticky Strip, Snail Adhesive, Pearls, Smooch Spritz - Vanilla Shimmer, Stampin' Write Marker - Old Olive, Pearls
Non-SU! - Ribbon, Button, Gold Paint, Tissue

I randomly sponged the piece of Whisper White Cardstock with a Tissue using Real Red, Tangerine Orange Inks plus a little of Shimmer Paint with a small amount of Gold Pint mixed together.  I went with the tissue as I wasn't happy with the Sponge or Sponge Dauber.  I lightly wiped a clean tissue over the sponging to remove any excess ink that may have been sitting there.

Dasher was stamped direct onto the sponged background with Versamark Ink & embossed with White Embossing Powder.  I repeated the same for the images along the bottom.  I then sprayed the whole lot with Smooch Spritz to give it a bit of a shine.

For the Leaves, I drew them free-hand onto a scrap piece of Old Olive Cardstock, scored the middle of each leaf with my Bone Folder so that it looked like there was a vein up each Leaf, drew along each vein with an Old Olive Stampin' Write Marker, dipped it into Versamark & embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.

The leaves were adhered to the top of the Ribbon with Mini Glue Dots, Button added to the top of the leaves with Mini Glue Dots & a row of Pearls adhered along the Ribbon, as well as the corner of the card & Dasher's eye.

I adhered the piece of Red Glitter Paper to the right hand side of the Basic Black Base Card with Snail Adhesive.  The embellished piece of Cardstock was adhered to the piece of Basic Black Cardstock with Snail Adhesive, then to the piece of Champagne Glitter Paper with Sticky Strip prior to adhering the left hand half to the front of the Base Card.

As I've stated, the Basic Black is not a traditional Christmas colour, but am happy with the final result.  Hope the ladies enjoy creating it as much as I have.

Until next time, Happy Stampin'

Merry Christmas Embossed....

Today's card is my version of the one we created in Crafty Creations yesterday.

A lot of the ladies all had this lovely Christmas Tree stamp & wanted to recreate one of the cards Naomi had made using the stamp - sorry don't have a photo of the original.

After coming home & in the middle of preparing tea, I had an idea pop into my head on how to recreate a card that was similar using SU! Lovely as a Tree.  I'm really happy with the way it turned out, especially the background & the greeting on the front which I repeated for the inside.  Mind you, I sort of come across this from making something I wasn't going to like...... , but then that happens so much when stamping.

Measurements -
Base Card - Very Vanilla - 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" or 8 1/4" or 21cm x 14.5cm
Layer 1- Gold Glitter Paper - 5" x 3 3/4" or 13cm x 9.5cm
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" or 12cm x 8.5cm

Supplies -
Stamp Set - Lovely as a Tree, Petite Pairs
Ink - Versamark
Cardstock - Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Gold Glimmer Paper
Accessories - Snail Adhesive, Shimmer Paint, Embossing Powder - Gold, Heat Tool, Sticky Strip
Non- SU - Thread, Paint, Pearls, Gold Paint, Glad Wrap

I stamped direct onto the piece of Whisper White Cardstock with Versamark, poured Gold Embossing Powder over the top, tapped excess off & heat set with Heat Tool.

I then proceed to mix a tiny bit of Gold Paint that I had lying around into a little bit of Frost Shimmer Paint.  The amount of Gold Paint I started out with was a about a small pin head & then built from there.  I didn't want too much gold as I just wanted it to blend into the background.  I spread this with a piece of Glad Wrap which I just scrunched into a ball.

For my sentiment, I wanted to emboss it in the Gold, but as I previously stated, didn't like the look after tapping off the excess.  I then proceeded to brush all the Embossing Powder off the sentiment & was left with the faint image.  It looks a little like stamping off a couple of times with ink, except I've done it with Embossing Powder

I tied the Thread around the bottom of the card twice, tied a bow & adhered to the Gold Glitter Paper with Sticky Strip.

The whole piece was adhered to the Base Card - Very Vanilla with Snail Adhesive.

To finish it off, I adhered Pearls to the top & bottom.

All in all, a very simple, easy card, but am so happy with the final result!

Until next time, have a great day!

SC 063/12...

For such an easy challenge over at Sunny Challenges, I had a hard time creating sometime that I truely liked.  I started about 4 times, blank, walked around, blank, cleaned, blank, BUT then went & did some "retail therapy' which I don't usually do & YES, it did the trick!  Thank you Retail Therapy - you are my new best friend!

Our challenge this week is the sketch only!  Because the layout was so open, I decided to try a technique......

Measurements -
Base Card - Whisper White - 5 3/4" x 4 1/8" or 11cm x 14.5cm
Layer 1 - Not Quite Navy - 4 7/8" x 3 3/4" or 12.5cm x 10cm
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 5" x 4 3/4" or 13cm x 9.5cm

Supplies -
Stamp Set - French Foliage, A Word for You
Ink - Versamark, Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery, Not Quite Navy, Crumb Cake
Cardstock - Whisper White, Not Quite Navy
Accessories - Snail Glue, Heat Tool, Embossing Powders - White & Clear, Sponge

Technique -
Emboss Resist - Tutorial may be found here

To select my ink colours, I wanted to go with something that was different, soft, but with one colour which would be vibrant.  Once I had decided on the ink colours, the next big step was the Cardstock colour to bring the ink colours out even more.  With technique in hand, I sort of selected random colours until I was happy with the look behind the technique.

Inside Card...
Once I had applied the Emboss Resist Technique to my card, I proceeded to sponge the colours of Tempting Turquoise, Crumb Cake & Certainly Celery Inks around the images with a Sponge.  I did this until I was happy with the result.

I then decided that it wasn't shinny enough & didn't really show the technique to it's full potential, so I decided to dab the Versamark Ink over the entire piece, poured Clear Embossing Powder over the top & heat set with my Heat Tool.

I proceeded to cut the stamped piece of cardstock into 3 equal pieces & adhered to the piece of Not Quite Navy Cardstock with Snail Adhesive.

I wanted to apply a greeting to the card, but didn't want to stamp or place any pieces over the top of the stamped images, so instead to stamp the greeting on the right hand side of the card in Not Quite Navy Ink.  I then adhered the Not Quite Navy piece to the Base Card - Whisper White.

Can you see the shine...
I'm really happy with the final outcome, as it is something I had pictured in my mind.  It is a very clean card, but I like this sort of card.

With the greeting I used, I can now use it for any occasion I choose.......

Why not pop on over to Sunny Challenges & check out what Gwen & Kris have both created.  We would love for you to join us this week.

Until next time, Happy Stampin'

Guest Designer....

Sometime ago I was asked to be a Guest Designer over at Christmas Cards All Year Round.  Thank you so much Tracey for asking!

This site has been going for some time now & I have followed it for quiet awhile, although I must admit, have not participated in their challenges for so long.  This site is a great way to complete those Christmas cards ready for posting come 1 December!

Anyhow, on with the challenge.

The challenge this month was to -

TWINKLE-TWINKLE Christmas Lights

Multi-colored or clear, embossed or bling, strings or singles, vintage or new, bright or dull, broken or whole ...inspriation is limitless! Make it electric and fun.

Measurements -
Base Card - Crumb Cake - 11 3/4" x 4 1/8" or 30cm x 10.5cm - scored in half & fold in the middle
Layer 1 - Glimmer Paper - 1/2" x 4 1/8" or 1cm x 10.5cm
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 1/2" x 4 1/8" or 1cm x 10.5cm
Layer 3 - Glimmer Paper - 2 1/4" x 4 1/8" or 5.5cm x 10.5cm
Layer 4 - Riding Hood Red - 2 1/2" x 2 3/4" or 6.5cm x 7cm
Layer 5 - Whisper White - 2 3/8" x 2 5/8" or 6cm x 6.5cm

Supplies -
Stamp Set - Dasher, Short & Sweet
Ink - Riding Hood Red, Versamark
Cardstock - Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Glimmer Paper Red
Ribbon - 5/8" Organza - White
Punches - Scallop Trim Border
Embossing Folder - Petals a Plenty
Accessories - Stampin' Dimensionals, Snail Adhesive, Multipurpose Glue, Pearls, Black Journal Writer, Heat Tool, Embossing Powder - Clear

I punched the narrower piece of Glimmer Paper along one of the long sides using the Scallop Trim Border Punch.  I attached the piece of Whisper White Cardstock along the edge of the punched line with Snail Adhesive.

The larger piece of Glimmer Paper was run through the Bigshot using the Embossing Folder - Petals a Plenty and adhered it to the top of the Whisper White Cardstock so that a small piece of the White was showing.  This breaks up the red on red.  In hindsite, I should have added another smaller piece of White to the other side, but only thought of it when everything had been completed.

Dasher was stamped in Versamark & then Riding Hood Red Ink prior to being stamped onto the small piece of Whisper White Cardstock, heat set with the Heat Tool & then adhered to the piece of Riding Hood Red with Snail Adhesive.  I adhered a small piece of Ribbon to the side, applied Stampin' Dimensionals & adhered to the Base Card.

Pearls were adhered to the antelers & around his neck for some bling.  His eye was marked using the Black Journal Marker.  The greeting was stamped in Riding Hood Ink.

Why not head over to Christmas Cards All Year Round & check out what the rest of the team have created, create your project & link back.

Until next time, Happy Stampin'

Technique Class...

The card I am showing you today is one of the ones from our Technique Class last Sunday - Stained Glass - Embossed.
It is a very basic layout AND a very easy card to create.  In saying that, it did take me about 8 days to come up with it - don't you just hate that!  I think I was too busy concentrating on the layout instead of the technique.  So when I looked at the whole project from another angle, I shocked myself at how easy it eventually was & how very pretty & soft it turned out!

Distressing....

I did a one on one class with the lovely Lynne last Friday.  As she had purchased some new ink pads, she wanted to know how to use them, so I put my thinking cap on & come up with the following card using Stampin' Up! Inks.

We had a lot of fun creating this, although our fingers did get very inky....  Lynne's was a little different to mine, especially as she used different inks too.

Note to self - wash fingers prior to touching cardstock!!!!!!

The layout itself is a basic one, as I wanted the techniques to showcase themselves.

Measurements -
Base Card - Perfect Plum - 8 1/4" x 5 7/8" or 21.5cm x 15cm
Layer 1 - Verey Vanilla - 4" x 5 3/4" or 10cm x 14.5cm

SC 033/12...

Wow, the challenge this week over at Sunny Challenges & Creations is really out of my comfort sone, to say the least!  I am really very happy with the result & LOVE "Distressing"!
Yep, this week our challenge has been brought to us by Libby.  Along with the sketch, we had to use the Technique - Distressing.  This technique is able to be created using many different ways.

Below are a couple of hints –
· Gently rub a distressing ink pad with a sponge and rub ink around the edges of paper
· Brush ink with a direct-to-paper technique (brush ink pad directly onto surface of paper with gentle strokes)
· Crumple paper, flatten, and rub distress inks on paper.  Paper can be sprayed with water and dried a heat tool to set
· Sand the surfaces of your card stock to achieve an antique effect

Envelope & Inside Card...
Any of these techniques will give you an antique or vintage look which can vary with the colour and ink you use and how much you apply to the paper.

As soon as Libby set us this task, my mind went racing & immediately knew what colours I was going to use, BUT as to how I was going to go about it, well that is another story.  In saying that, I did have a hard time trying to decide on my bit that runs along the bottom bit of the card.  I tried so many ideas that I finally decided on what I ended up with & am glad I did, as I think it sets it off perfectly!

Measurements -
Base Card - Very Vanilla - 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" or 21cm x 15cm - Scored in middle & folded in half
Layer 1 - Not Quite Navy - 5 1/2" x 3 7/8" or 14cm x 10cm
Layer 2 - Watercolour Paper - 5 5/8" x 3 3/4" or 13.5cm x 9.5cm
Layer 3 - Very Vanilla - 5 5/8" x 3/4" or 13.5cm x 2cm

Supplies -
Stamp Set - French Foliage, Inspired By Nature
Ink - Versamark, Crumb Cake
Cardstock - Watercolour Paper, Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla
Ribbon - 5/8"Crochet Trim - Victoria, Linen Thread
Accessories - Heat Tool, Embossing Powder - Clear, SU Markers, Pearls, Smooch Spritz - Very Vanilla, Distressing Kit, Snail Adhesive, Mini-Glue Dots

I really wanted to finished with my Base Card as Not Quite Navy, but cut both Layer 2 & 3 too big for that, so settled on Very Vanilla.  Maybe next time, as I have a couple of samples that didn't make this card!

After trying a couple of different ways to create my background, I finally used Watercolour Paper - soaks up the misting a lot faster & believe me, there is a LOT of misting on this card!

I also added a couple of elements to finish my card off.  You could say "Vintage meets Shabby Chic

Would love to know what you all think????

Don't forget to pop over to Sunny Challenges & Creations & see the other samples.  We have 3 Guest Designers - their samples are just gorgeous - this week along with Libby & Kris' samples.

We would love for you to join us - so come on & have a bit of fun with us this week!  What a great time to get out of your "Comfort Zone".  If I can do it, anyone can!

Happy Stampin'

SC 028/12...

I don't know about anyone esle, but the weeks just seem to be flying by.  It only seems like yeasterday that I posted last week's challenge,  But here it is a new week & a new challenge.  This week, the challenge over at Sunny Challenges & Creations has been set by Shirley.  It is her last challenge as Guest Designer.

I would like to personally thank Shirley so much for filling in for us at the last moment.  She has been wonderful.  I only hope her time wiith us has been as great as we have had having her with us. Thanks again Shirley.

For this week, we only have the 1 part so it should be easy for everyone to join in.  Send Shirley off with a big bang & start those wonderful creations that I know are out there.

As I have sadly neglected my goal for the past 2 weeks including "Scrappy Saturday", I decided to create a scrapbook page.  The page is of my nieces running wild in Sydney & very excited to see "Acca Dacca" Concert.  True fans will know I mean "ACDC".

Scrappy Saturday will be back next week!

Now I had to hold myself back here, as I was sooooooooooo very tempted to add a tiny bit of Red to the page, but did hold back!!!!!!!

A very simple page, but one I am happy with!

Stamp Set - Array of Sunshine

SSC 241...

This is the card I created fo rthe new challenge over at Stamping 411.  As soon as I saw this sketch, I knew what I wanted to use & how it should look when I finished.  I wanted to try & create a shabby chic/vintage type card.  I think I have succeeded in getting the results I had in my head.

As usual the operators have provided us with all the basic measurements - all the hard work has been done for us -

Measurements -
Base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4" - Very Vanilla
Layer 2: 4 x 5 1/4" - Soft Suede
Layer 3: 4" x 1 1/2"  - DSP
Layer 4: 2 1/2" x 2 1/4" - DSP
Layer 5: 2 3/8" x 2 1/8" - Very Vanilla

I Heat Embossed my image onto the piece of Soft Suede using Versamark & Clear Embossing Powder.

Envelope & Inside Card...
I adhered the DSP to a piece of Pink Pirouette so that I didn't have the DSP straight onto the Soft Suede & to break the colours up a little.  I think it looks pretty with the little bit of Pink Pirouette showing as a small edge.  I then adhered this piece to the embossed piece using Snail Adhesive.

The Ribbon was adhered across the top part of the DSP & ends tucked under.  The whole piece was then adhered to the Base Card - Very Vanilla using Snail Adhesive.

Stamping the image onto the small piece using Versamark & Soft Suede Inks, I Heat Embossed it.  Using my Aqua Painter, I gently coloured the images with Pink Pirouette & Wild Wasabi Inks.  I nearly left the leaves clear, but after looking at it for a little time, decided to go ahead & colour them.  I like the little bit of green in the card!

Close Up of Clear Embossing & Flowers...

I applied Pearls to the centres of some of the flowers & adhered both pieces to the card as per the sketch.  I found a couple of small Butterflies that were in my packet of Pink Pirouette already cut out, so I used them on the card.  The large Butterfly was adhered with Multipurpose Glue & 2 small Pearls applied to the centre.  The Butterflies had been cut using the Beatuiful Wings Embosslits Dies.

I stamped my sentiment direct onto a piece of Very Vanilla using my SU Marker - Soft Suede, punched with the Modern Label Punch, dabbed a little Pink Pirouette around the edges, adhered to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals & adhered the small butterfly to the sentiment.  I applied 3 small Pearls to the punched piece - 1 in the centre of the Butterfly & 2 to replace the "o" in the words.

Lastly, I tied a bow & applied to the card with Mini Glue Dots.

When I saw this sketch, it is very similar to a scrapbook layout I have completed for  a class I have this month, which I will post once the class is finished.

Page 7...

Wow!  It seems such a long way to go before I hit 150 pages, but I am determined to get there.

With having an hour or so spare this morning & taking a small break between jobs, thought I would scrap these 2 photos of my nieces.

Tip -
When scrapping your photos, don't forget there is nothing to say that you can't use the same photo on the one page.  I haven't done this on this page, but the photos are so similar that you would think they are.

I thought about changing these photos to back & white, but decided to give myself a bit of a challenge & went with the colours in Dannielle's dress to complete my page.

I tore down 2 sides of the Pumpkin Pie Cardstock & along the top of the DSP prior to adhering both pieces to the Basic Black Cardstock.  To match the embossed DSP, I decided to emboss all my flowers.  The larger ones were adhered to the page with Stampin' Dimensionals, while the 3 smaller flowers were heat embossed direct onto the DSP.  Don't be scared to try different things when scrappin'.  I oloured a couple of Rhinestones using a Black  & Orange Permanent Markers.  The smaller Rhinestones I used Clear Rhinestones.

The stamp set I used had the word "Cherish" in it, so I typed the dictionary meaning onto a scrap of Whisper White, printed it out & adhered to the page sideways.

The same word was stamped onto another scrap of Whisper White, heat embossed, punched & layered onto a punched pieced of Basic Black.  I adhered it over the top of the ribbon with Stampin' Dimensionals.
